Lanzones Festival Camiguin 2011 – Parades, Music, Food & Beyond
Yes friends, it was the time of the year again where all of Camiguin Island celebrates mother-natures grace with day-time dance festivities, parades, night time live music, cheap drinks and so much more. This is one of those Camiguin Events, where the whole island get’s decorated and where, for one week, peoples regular activities get disregarded, for this is the fest that we’ve that people have been practicing for since the previous years one has ended.
During the day, people enjoyed the scheduled native dances, which evolved self made costumes and make-up. It’s traditional theme that has been kept for decades, as well as the enthusiastic new choreographers managed to capture its audience, new and old, in an entertaining ballad throughout the day. For many foreigners although, the Camiguin heat was the only reason to miss the daytime activities.
At night, a whole new crowd and ambiance would manifest at the Grandstand, the heart of the festival. Its two sections consisted of, what I call, the family & kids section and the party section. The family section was where the family and the little ones could enjoy snacks, rides, games & shopping in the souvenir shops. The party area would be a mixture of crowds, a big stage with a live band or sometimes just a DJ. Its yard would be filled with bier and snack stores, chairs and tables for groups to sit, drink and enjoy the music. Nights at the Grandstand would be, for some, the only activity done at this festival, which can go on until the sun rises in the morning.
All in all, the Lanzones Festival this year was, once again, a great success to bring the island together. We will be eagerly waiting for next years festival, although there will be many other festive activities before than.
